Open Standard Stripe - Newsroom 4000x2000

  • Businesses can mint and burn OUSD at no cost, and become Open Standard partners to earn rewards for supporting the OUSD network.

SAN FRANCISCO AND DUBLIN—Stripe has partnered with Open Standard to make Open USD (OUSD) available to businesses running on Stripe. OUSD will be offered in addition to the existing stablecoin options.

OUSD is a new stablecoin built for global money movement created by Open Standard, an independent company founded by Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa. Businesses that choose to become an Open Standard partner earn rewards for adopting and transacting with OUSD.

The potential for stablecoins to help businesses operate more effectively, while enormous, remains largely untapped. For fintech businesses like remittance companies and global payroll platforms, with a high volume of cross-border transactions, stablecoins are the ideal rail in theory. But in practice, existing stablecoins are cost-prohibitive because they incur highly variable (“mint” and “burn”) fees to convert in and out of fiat currencies. OUSD changes that: businesses can convert freely between dollars and OUSD at no cost. Instead, Open Standard charges a small, predictable transaction fee.

OUSD, which launched today, is now available to businesses using Stripe. Developers can build fintech products with OUSD using Stripe’s APIs, including Bridge orchestration, Privy embedded wallets, and stablecoin cards with Stripe Issuing. Ramp, for example, is an Open Standard partner that uses Stripe to power its stablecoin accounts. These accounts will let Ramp customers hold OUSD balances, earn rewards, and send money anywhere in the world, 24/7.

“OUSD offers businesses better economics than any other stablecoin,” said Henri Stern, co-founder of Privy. “We’re excited to give developers the choice to use it across all of Stripe’s stablecoin stack, enabling them to build internet-native products at scale.”

Businesses can also hold OUSD directly with Stripe Treasury, spend that balance with stablecoin cards, and send OUSD to crypto wallets in more than 100 countries. Stripe Treasury accounts can be funded with OUSD from crypto wallets on Tempo, Base, Ethereum, and Solana, as well as with fiat through ACH, SEPA, and wire transfers.
